The build quality of the G10 is noticeably better than the G11. Unfortunately, the 10 megapixel sensor that is now in the G11, is the sensor that should have been in the G10, instead of the ludicrous unneeded 14mp sensor. The swivel screen on the G11 is easily broken, and once broken the camera is useless.

Your gonna get it becuase of the swivel screen? My G-5 I have from Feb 04 has a swivel screen and the G-3 before that.
This camera has a lot more to it than a swivel screen.

im thinking of getting the G11, because of the swivel screen, which will be very useful…i can careless if its megapixels isn’t as much :/ but other than that, they are sweet much the same, right? ^^”

  7. ChoEugene on February 24, 2010 at 6:29 pm

i heard this is the best camera before using DSLR. when you handle this camera skillfully, then your next step is~ DSLR.

Awe-inspiring camera. The G10 is a fantastic camera for those who want to “learn” photography. You will be able to adjust “custom per shot white balance” not just “presents” like out door etc but “custom.”
You have Ev, Av, Tv, ISO manual settings! Captures in RAW fantastic for fixing things shortly in Photoshop. Has histogram and a 1/3 grid for applying the “rule of thirds” and more. Get it you won’t be disappointed.

  16. yooabz on February 24, 2010 at 11:03 pm

how long can you record the video on it for?

  17. Jefferson1228 on February 24, 2010 at 11:37 pm

Unfortunately, it does not. It also has the rigorous same CCD sensor as the G9 on the Digital Photography Review, but I will research this matter further to confirm that it is right. The more mega pixels that are crammed into a sensor, the higher the noise level, but the G10 has the new DIGIC IV Image Processor, but noise still shows up in semi-light conditions, all multicoloured and stuff. Lolzzz.

    no LAWL

I have this camera and I am already carriage it back after only months of owning it, the lens cover always comes in contact with the lens every time it’s turned on and off, causing my lens to have permanent scratches in it. Canon didn’t do anything to stop dust from infiltrating the LCD and the internal lenses. Not that I despise this camera, it’s a fantastic advancement, apart from no timelapse, no 1024×768, no x6 optical zoom etc but I guess it makes up with other features such as wide-angle and such.

    Man, you ‘re incorrect!!

    G9 CCD sensor: 1/1.8 ” (7.18 x 5.32 mm, 0.38 cm²)
    G10 CCD sensor: 1/1.7 ” (7.60 x 5.70 mm, 0.43 cm²)

The G10′s sensor is a bit larger. But, the thing we should be concerned about is the Pixel Desnsity:

    G9: 26 MP/cm²
    G10: 34 MP/cm²

This has a result of less dynamic range for G10 compared to G9. But here is where the DIGIC4 comes to play along with the wider lens…

Does the G10 have the time lapse mode capability of the G9?

  22. aznxbabi88 on February 25, 2010 at 2:40 am

    ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i want it!!!!

Any views on how this camera performs in Auto mode? I’m looking for a camera that provides features and artistic flexibility, but that will also perform well on Auto as a spur-of-the moment, point and shoot contrivance.
I delight in photography as a leisure activity, but i reckon that a DSLR would be too bulky and complex for me when travelling. Would this be the camera for me?
    Cheers. :)

The thing you have to realize is that the g10 offers the digic 4 processor. This processor does an extraordinary job of releaving the noise up to iso 200. Otherwise, I in person own one and from 80 to 200 the pictures are fanominal! Beyond that, because of the smaller sensor size, 800 and 1600 are too grainy. Fantastic camera!

i’m sweet excited about the DP2…can’t wait. with a bit of luck they improved the on-off and shutter lag times as well as the magenta problem with the foveon sensor.
