Thank You thank you thank you for discussion about the video and it’s resolution. It seems like everyone forgets to even mention that these camera’s has video anymore. Even the description on Amazon doesn’t mention the word ‘Video’ once. Trying to find out some details on what the camera can do with video is not simple.

Is this chick one of those new Japanese made robots? If so it appears they have improved on the previous versions, keep up the excellent work!

Anyone got any thoughts on how this compares with the G9?

    [continued from below]

This camera would be the pros discreet point-and-shoot, would be sold out, and would kill everything else. Canon already has the technology to produce this camera, yet they would rather give us toys like the G11 and S90.

    Why Canon?

  8. famousPhotog on March 18, 2010 at 8:14 pm

    j) No fragile swivel screen to get ripped off body
    k) G10 body style, not G11
    l) Upgraded low light auto focus sensitivity
    m) Quicker responsiveness, reduced shutter lag
    n) 640×480 video, but with AF all through video
    o) No camera buzzing to degrade audio
    p) Built-in wireless file transmitter with 300 range
    q) Price point: $1000 – $1250

I am still waiting for a pro translation of the Canon G10:
    a) 6mp for fantastic tonality up to 8×10
    b) Same sensor technology as used in 1D Mk4
    c) Same sensor size as on contemporary G10/G11
    d) Clean ISO 3200, 12 stops of dynamic range
    e) RAW only – no jpeg, no picture styles
    f) Sturdy weathertight sealed body (use in rain)
    g) 4x Optical zoom, f/2 – f/4 gap range
    h) Upgraded lens quality with L coatings
    i) In-body IS, like the G10/G11

After unboxing mine and try it out, I would say I’m not dissappointed at the picture quality the same as the video quality of this camera. At this size it is hard to give negative review it is well built, excellent ergonomics, compact, and the picture quality is top notch. A small pricey that’s the only negative thing I will give to this camera but it’s worth the price.

it is not less rugged lol. the floding screen acts as a shell to protect the lcd when not in use. and its sturdy

… so you’re really going to be printing larger than A1 on a compact camera? Resolution isn’t everything. I much prefer a camera that can handle awe-inspiring light situations. I’ll use My DSLR for high rez stuff (even thought that is only 12.2mp… 35mm tho) 10mp is fine.

14 megapixels isnt just excellent numbers its better resolution. That is a priority for me. ISO, No doubt its excellent, individually for night shots I know that, but Cannon should balance them together, not up one and down one. I dont play that game. G12 Im waiting for you!

  17. wenceshen on March 19, 2010 at 2:05 am

you get better iso so you can work on low lighting conditions, 14 megapixels is just a excellent looking number but unless you have a larger sensor is useless, by reducing the number of pixels you get better night quiality

  18. Holret on March 19, 2010 at 2:14 am

excellent review. above and beyond that, The decrease in resolution in favor of a better ISO isnt a plus for me. It isnt a step forward for the G series its more of a stepbackwards in its evolution. Shame on you Cannon. I will keep my eyes open for G12, Give us ISO and gives of better MP.. You will make pleased costumers. I will stick to my G9 until that happens.
