Shouldn’t the title be Canon PowerShot SD790IS Digital ELPH?? it’s not santa’s small helper, even if it was an xmas gift lol. The button design though is a bit odd.

If u want a better camera then this, and you want 1080p pictures at 12mp and 5X optical zoom get the Fujifilm F200EXR

Check out CHDK… It’s alternative firmware that runs off the reminiscence card instead of the internal reminiscence.

It started as a Cannon Hack but others are starting to do the same.

For the Youtubers, you can enable optical zoom while in video mode. They disabled it because you can hear the servo motor. But being a huge nerd, I like the sound of servo motors.

If you complain about that, get a better camera! lol…

Yes, Cannon calls it photo stitching. The camera comes with software that will help you start. Its simple! But if the wind, moves the clouds then you need a better lens.

The 10 mega pixels are excellent enough to crop if you could in some way get a panorama lens to attach to the 790.

LOL, the file on the reminiscence card will be in AVI format (example:001.avi).

You can upload AVI files strait to youtube…

You can import to Windows Movie Maker or what ever editing software of your choice.

With editing, you can manipulate your videos into something worth watching…

  11. Khmel321 on May 19, 2010 at 7:38 pm

  12. mocciat on May 19, 2010 at 7:45 pm

it will not matter what you use to make the movies just import the video file and you can manipulate it but you want

  13. latina4u55 on May 19, 2010 at 8:32 pm

do you know if its compatible with windows movie maker for uploading to youtube

  14. mocciat on May 19, 2010 at 9:31 pm

all my vids starting in January with the exception of the App reviews are taken with this camera so I would say the video quality is excellent.

CHDK alternative firmware for the SD790is!!!
Its capabilities are way out the sky.
A beta translation of CHDK works! I’m helping with the developement. We need more help! You can adjust and tweak everything! Check it out! Plus the design! The screen needs a cover though…

I did this review on November 25th, 2008 at that time it was $249 at Best Buy. Things tend to go on sale closer to the end of the year

  20. kbwproductions on May 20, 2010 at 12:33 am

I got mine at Circuit City for $179.99. Not $249 like you said.

  25. mocciat on May 20, 2010 at 3:02 am

She will be getting it Christmas morning but she likes canon and we have had canon for years so I anticipate she will like it and going from a 2″ screen to a 3″ screen will be a huge difference
