  2. thebutler89 on July 23, 2010 at 3:09 pm

the difference in picture quality is really evident if you watch the cows in succession in both videos

at the time it was a decent camera but im getting another one soon mines just broke and i’ve sent it to cannon. With a bit of luck they will replace it so its new and then i can sell it for a decent price the zoom on this camera is fantastic so don’t doubt it!

I liked both of them, but the Canon ruled the day.. Thanks for sharing..

Had the canon FS200 and returned it the next day. They both suck in picture quality. I got a kodak zi8 which shoots 720p and 1080p 60fps HD, and half the price. Standard def is out people, get with HD. I couldnt be more pleased with the Zi8, it is the top HD camera in its class and rivals most thousand dough HD cameras aswell.

canon always wins. and miniDV is outdated by far

  7. pbyolo56 on July 23, 2010 at 5:02 pm

    i just got the fs100
    thats my vote

  8. probacont2007 on July 23, 2010 at 5:58 pm

The video quality sucks for both. Colors are washed out! Missing the clarity

wow why did you sell the canon? it looks so much better and sounds better

  10. seansoddworld on July 23, 2010 at 6:46 pm

  11. jiffyman on July 23, 2010 at 7:27 pm

I dont know how you can sat different positions, both cmareas were sat touching each other on one gate post…. Lol

  12. andreilucaci81 on July 23, 2010 at 7:39 pm

    1-you captured from diferent positions..
2-the sound on Sony is better..

  13. jiffyman on July 23, 2010 at 8:09 pm

I went for the Sony SR290E in the end, another HDD camera

  14. synthplaya on July 23, 2010 at 9:01 pm

should have kept the canon. i despise those tapes! the canon picture was much better but the sound was about the same.

  15. Robotdrummerzzk on July 23, 2010 at 9:08 pm

Canon has better picture, the Sony one is more grainy and less defined. You should have stuck with Canon

  16. stevenerer on July 23, 2010 at 9:35 pm

You have terribly set up of canon camcoder, read the user guide and than screen won’t be choppy.

  17. ro7477 on July 23, 2010 at 10:14 pm

here is what you do – open this video up in two windows. one you play from the start and in the other window cue the clip from where the cannon starts up… and then -you can see the difference.

in fact i did have the sony hc27 for two years, it was brilliant. very sturdy and reliable….but i just got my cannon and it kicks serious arse!! i was always a fan of miniDVs but now SD cards rule ..cheers

Canon has better resolution and sound

  19. NorfolkWestern34 on July 23, 2010 at 10:57 pm

    Canon is so much better

  20. ThatEmoMonkey on July 23, 2010 at 11:50 pm

the colours are so much more refined on the canon, lots of classification between objects aswell

  21. Molex350 on July 23, 2010 at 11:53 pm

but miniDV are less reliable… because of vibrations etc. (for example on motorbike the SD recording is much better…)

  22. schaanman on July 24, 2010 at 12:04 am

um thats why i came to this take up. to learn not to teach.. lol

i have both the canon fs100 and the sony dcr-hc36 i welded a mount to the front of my bumper for rock crawling footage. ill compare this summer and see the difference, but from the vid i reckon vid quality of sony better but sound better on canon.

  23. mbv1364 on July 24, 2010 at 12:44 am

You can feel the movement of sound in the sony, BUT the picture of canon is better.

  24. icollided on July 24, 2010 at 1:35 am

    sparkle reminiscence wins

  25. OmegaBlueWind74 on July 24, 2010 at 2:24 am

Don’t you reckon that this comparison is a small unfair jiffyman? I mean, you are comparing a Sony MiniDV camcorder and a Canon sparkle reminiscence camcorder. Both of the camcorders should of been MiniDV or sparkle reminiscence.

I will say that the Canon camcorder has better image and sound quality than the Sony camcorder. I like both Sony and Canon camcorders.
