I despise when people say “but it has a lower resolution”
It’s the ccd that matters not the res. Unless your gonna be printing huge prints the megapixels don’t really matter

  4. slitz85 on September 8, 2010 at 3:59 pm

which one do you reckon prefer in terms of image quality? the G11 or the s90?

  5. sasktank on September 8, 2010 at 4:56 pm

less megapixcells is excellent=a larger pixel is more sensitive to light andmore accurate at rendering right colors

  6. jaibobs108 on September 8, 2010 at 5:01 pm

does the g11 have the front scroll too?

  7. gosnia on September 8, 2010 at 5:06 pm

This was very nearly a year ago… I wonder whether Canon might be getting ready to release new models? I don’t want to go out and buy this thing today if newer stuff is on the way! :)

how does sx210 compare to these 2

  9. Actinesque on September 8, 2010 at 5:39 pm

s90 is not a piece of crap. s90 is my new possession since yesterday :) and it performs simply awe-inspiring for its price

    @olokumkennels
Many megapixels doesn’t mean better pictures. The megapixels are essentially crammed onto the same sensor. So, fewer megapixels means that each pixel on the sensor is more sensitive to light (which probably results in a quicker sync speed too).

S90 is a piece of crap. I will not hesitate to go for G series.

  12. hayleydisca on September 8, 2010 at 7:14 pm

    s90 …for sure :)

  13. skjoyner on September 8, 2010 at 7:29 pm

@olokumkennels It’s weird, but I have a 10 year ancient 3 magapixele camera that takes better looking pictures than some of the 12 magapixele cameras. I haven’t understood why that is. I’m no camera expert.

  14. lightspacer on September 8, 2010 at 8:22 pm

    Is this in Beirut?

  15. raonipaes on September 8, 2010 at 9:12 pm

    @olokumkennels
Better performance in low light means a larger sensor.
Now, larger sensor, but less megapixels for a similar price, a smart technologic maneuver by Canon. The G11 has the largest sensor in its category, being outsized only by micro 4/3 DSLR cameras.
I can’t see anything competing directly with the Canon’s G series.

I am very pleased with my G11. The nonsensical line of reasoning of “it lacks HD video” is just a waste to me. I do not want that capability. If I did, I’d buy what is called a “video camera”

Once you get to 1600ISO the G11 will start to become a bit grainy, and this is likely worse with the S90 (which I do not have experience with), but anything 1000 or below gives fantastic quality pictures.

If you’re looking for an intro to advanced photography sans the nuisance of lens the G11 seems to be the best pick.

I’ve owned an s90 for about 4 months now. It takes splendid pictures in average light and performs in low light as well as I needed. I got a camera smaller than the G11 since this would be my pocket camera/case required. Experience has taught me that pocket lint will eventually jam any camera w/o a case. Handling is slower than with a DSLR but hey, can’t have everything.

I really like the S90, but I wish it had a viewfinder (optical or electronic). LCD screens tend to wash out in sunlight; also you can hold the camera much steadier with a viewfinder vice LCD screen (at least in my experience).

  19. garyn8888 on September 8, 2010 at 11:06 pm

The G11 seems like an brilliant camera, but I probably won’t buy it because of a serious design flaw (in my opinion). When taking a picture, it’s very awkward positioning your right thumb (too close to other buttons). I’d despise to hand it to someone to take my picture – they’d probably hit some other button … Not very excellent ergonomics.

  20. mtb416 on September 8, 2010 at 11:06 pm

I’m very pleased with my G11. Canon has always made simple to use interfaces with their digital cameras, and this has allowed me to make the step up to more advanced photography much simpler. All the manual controls are simpler to get to than the S90, so if you’re usually shooting in the Auto function get the S90.

And I cannot believe how high the prices of these cameras are in the UK! Got my G11 for 450USD

On a side note, not many bags fit this camera. I use a small camcorder bag, LowePro Edit100

  21. attofarad32 on September 8, 2010 at 11:07 pm

Canon does make some of their own sensors, but they buy this one from Sony.

  22. Helikid2244 on September 8, 2010 at 11:47 pm

I like the g11. Everyone nowadays are so obsessed with everything being small. I want a camera to be small but not too small it loses practicality and handling

  23. brennanww on September 9, 2010 at 12:09 am

@htanso21 OH DEAR JESUS YOUR RIGHT, LMAO ya *canon and 1 not 10, you try playing call of duty while typing and getting no spelling errors
