A quick look at the Canon Powershot G12. Is it a formidable upgrade to the G11? Well it finally comes with HD (720p) video recording. It incorporates the High Sensitivity sensor of the S90/S95. DIGIC 4 processor. HDR (High Dynamic Range) shooting mode for in-camera processing. Multi-aspect ratio shooting and much more….hope to be able to review in-depth and share with you my opinion

@RadoDani The Image quality is the same for both cameras it is more a matter of accesibility of functions on the g series. The G series also has a hot shoe on it as well.
@RadoDani The differences you just mentioned ( I know that a professional photographer will prefer the G11 just for the controls, viewfinder or the tilt screen. BTW I am plesantly surprised that G11 can hold it’s own against micro four thirds cameras as well!!!) are exactly what I’m discussion about. If those differences arent noteworthy… what is? lol
@DemonicGenocide I was just on dpreview website comparing s90 with G11, LX5 and others in their samples comparison and couldn’t find any noteworthy difference between the two Canons, and I did expect the larger lens on G11 to make a noteworthy difference in IQ. But, I know that a professional photographer will prefer the G11 just for the controls, viewfinder or the tilt screen. @RadoDani Because it’s a better camera. Image quality isn’t all down to resolution lmao. I’m a professional photographer. I’d use the G11 as a back-up compact. I probably wouldn’t use the s95… less manual controls etc. I’m not saying the s95 is a terrible camera… I had a mess around with my friends s95 and it was a fun small camera… the G11 is just better.
I have a mixed feelings about G12. I was expecting a larger sensor even at the expense of zoom. The trend nowadays is to place larger sensor in a small body …. not a huge body on a small sensor. The controls, on the other hand, are really nice.
@DemonicGenocide I am really curious how is G12/G11 image quality better than S95.
this guy doesn’t know shit. irritating.
I would buy this camera if it had a 24mm wide angle – everything else about it seems fantastic.

@DemonicGenocide I couldnt tell ya…
@sirtechy nah tele and wide lenses you can get for the G series suck. Pointless additions. It’s the camera that makes the G11 better. The structure to start with is more robust and practical for pros and enthusiasts and then comes the better sensor and capturing features. The screen is epic on the G11, and believe it or not… all those extra buttons and dials make a differenece lol. The S95 is an ameteur compact, the G11 is a prosumer compact. Above and beyond… doesn’t the S95 have the adaptor ring?
@DemonicGenocide The only advantage of the G11 is adapter for filter and telephoto and battery. I’m in fact caught between getting the s95 and sd4500…
@sirtechy LOL you don’t have a clue. The G11 is better than the S95. Fuck the Movie feature. ITS A CAMERA!
BORING… Canon should have tried to incorporate 1080p in a more compact body. Why in the world would you buy this when the S95 is this in a compact body and quicker… Its only advantage is better battery…
@jamcansing No……., once you have loved a lot of 1080p videos.. it is hard to go back.. anything less is not satisfying especially if you are watching on a 60 inch HDTV. .. or a 26 inch HD computer monitor
@LTF85199 I haven’t seen the resulting output at 720p. I’m not sure how many would use the 1080p and then many may use it just because of the hype. For online stuff I feel 720p is sufficient. Perhaps if you produce stuff for TV, commercials and such 1080p is a must. Again, I’m not a professional but find most consumers are wowed by simple 720p and that’s because they see crappy QVGA or VGA video all the time. Even 480p is excellent if you have a excellent source.
@mecha890 if they really wanted to, I am sure they could place it in.. but i guess that is beyond their budget right now or they want to place that off for a future translation
@LTF85199
im quite fine with the 24p@720p but from some tests i saw it just doesnt seem like point and shoots can handle HD video that well at better mbps rates :/
Only wished it did 1080p 30ps…. like that fully articulating screen..
