Ok, so I had this camera for a long time. It lasted me for like 3 and a half years. It took fantastic pics, i took thousands of them, but the camera started to fail. So what else was there to do than take it apart? It was only 2 megapixles anyway! Copyright for songs: “Ready Steady Go” by Oakenfold: WMG “Safety Dance” by Men Without Hats: WMG I had to place that there so these dumb music powerhouses don’t go whining that I’m using a song that I bought off iTunes in my vids. Its called freedom of speech assholes.

    Fantastic vid!
If, like me, you came here to try and repair a Canon camera then STOP!
If it wont take pictures but everything else work – it displays them etc… – then check Canon’s website. You may be entitled to a free repair. They found problems with CCD sensors on many models of cameras in 2005.
They may repair even out of warranty.

You don’t need to remove the sparkle capacitor, just discharge its charge with a resistor, or better yet an analog multimeter (the one with a needle dial, not digital readout). Walmart sells for about $10. You should really own one if you do anything with electronics. Just apply its prongs to the exposed tips of the capacitor. The cap will slowly discharge to zero volts (may take a minute). After that, it’s safe to handle.

Thanks very much for this – it helped me fix mine.

There’s a switch at the bottom where the battery screened-off area opens – it cuts the power if the battery screened-off area is opened. But the black plastic can break off it – hence the switch never gets engaged.

I learned it’s a normally-closed switch – pressing it opens the contacts. So the solution was either to jam the switch rod in, or remove it completely. I chose the latter – a right bugger to get to. The sparkle cap’ zapped me too….

trying now to get the back off one of these. Is it simply snapped on everyplace at the top?

There’s a screw inside the reminiscence-card door, does this one have to come out (for the back?) How about the ones inside the battery well?

A warning to you all, Remove the internal Sparkle battery with caution. When I cut the wires, it litterally popped.
