To start, let me say that i am not knowledgeable photographer, nor would I contemplate for myself a novice. i do not shoot in RAW, and i am not very involved with all of the ISO settings and state “noise,” etc. i am simply a median “Point Shoot” reasonably guy, who can sometimes use the different scene modes and change the sparkle settings – but that is the extent of my manual manipulation of the settings.
Simply stated, I needed a camera that takes lovely photos and records in HD. I additionally needed one thing that has additional bells whistles, therefore if I do need learn photography, I even have one thing smart to start with.
I’ve had this camera for nearly a month currently and that i am fully thrilled with it! the image quality using the Auto settings is AMAZING! I’ve never had some extent & shoot that took photos this fantastic! the image quality rivals that of my friends T2i. he is knowledgeable photographer and was amazed at the standard of the G12′s photos using auto settings… He even ordered one for himself therefore he does not need to carry around his bulky dslr. In my eyes, the colour comes out therefore authentic – What I mean by this is often that the colours look precisely the method I saw them, with no noticeable variation (unlike many alternative Sony and Nikon cameras that I’ve owned within the past). Another feature i am very impressed with is that the HD recording. I’ve used it outside at nighttime with very small to moderate lighting, and that i am merely impressed with the clarity and crispness of the video. you’ll additionally see some videos yourself by about to YouTube and looking out “Canon G12 video.”
So in a very nutshell, this camera takes outstanding photos and videos, and has a lot of bells & whistles that you just will use do you have to ever need them. When you are taking photos with a digital camera, be it a point and shoot or a 35mm SLR, the image you capture is stored to a reminiscence card using a particular file format. Most digital cameras offer you the ability to store files in JPEG, TIFF or RAW format.
By far the most commonly used format is JPEG. The reason it is so common is that it offers a excellent balance between image size and image quality. That means simply that it produces a excellent quality image and takes up minimal interval. But the JPEG format is a lossy format. This means that it uses a mathematical formula to reduce the file size and as a consequence, some of the image quality will also be reduced.
Unlike JPEG, TIFF and RAW formats are non-lossy, meaning the entire image is saved with no loss in image quality. The downside of course is that the metaphors are much larger. This means you can shoot and store fewer metaphors on the same size reminiscence card. For example, on the Nikon Coolpix 5700, a 5MB image will consume 14.5 MB as a TIFF, 1.5 MB as a JPEG and 7.8 MB as a RAW image.
A TIFF is a completely identical rendering of the image that was captured and can be viewed on most computers with the proper software. RAW metaphors are similar to shooting a digital negative. This means that some additional post processing will be needed to view the image. A tool such as Photoshop will be necessary along with the proper plugins to handle the viewing and processing of a RAW image once it is transferred to your computer. RAW metaphors are fantastic since it allows an experienced user to make changes to the photograph in the computer. Camera settings such as white balance, contrast, saturation levels, sharpening and so on are all possible to modify with a RAW image. Modification to these settings is not as simple with a JPEG or TIFF image.
Some cameras offer a compromise. For example my Nikon D80 will allow me to set it to capture both a JPEG and a RAW image each time I take a picture. That way I have the quick and dirty JPEG to delight in and a RAW image to manipulate shortly. This feature is rare on most point and shoot cameras.
